Shoreline began gathering in 2013, established by pastor David Hetiman and a group of elders from various backgrounds and minstries. After a time of transition, in 2016, the Lord confirmed to the eldership at Shoreline that Doug Calhoon was a good fit for the minsitry in Tauranga. By October 2016, he moved from Uganda to Tauranga with his wife Destiny and their three children.

Since that time Shoreline has undergone some changes, but remaining a core value within the church is our committment to the verse by verse expository teaching of the Bible.

Calvary Chapel
A brief history of a movement

In 1965, Pastor Chuck Smith began his ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa with just 25 people. From the beginning, Pastor Chuck welcomed all, young and old, without judgment, placing his emphasis on the teaching of the Word of God. His simple, yet sound, biblical approach drew 25,000 people weekly.

With a sincere concern for the lost, Pastor Chuck made room in his heart and his home for a generation of hippies and surfers, generating a movement of the Holy Spirit that spread from the West Coast to the East Coast, and now, throughout the world. What began as a small local church has now grown into an international ministry of over 1,800 fellowships throughout the world.

Pastor Chuck went home to be with the Lord in 2013, and with his passing came a time of difficulty for those who had been impacted by Chuck personally. While there has been some level of disagreement within the movement with Chuck no longer being present, we are encouraged to see the Lord shepherd His church through some of the very same principles that were established in the 1960's.
